Weekly Wrap Up (6/18/18) – (6/22/18)

With the speed at which news comes out in the gaming industry we sometimes miss important or news worthy things. Some of these things we want to talk about in a way that is both easy for you guys and allows us to get all the facts together as some of these stories develop quickly. Sometimes we also just cover topics that we find interesting and want to discuss.

EU proposed copyright laws

The EU is voting on a proposed Internet “Copyright Directive” as reported on PC Gamer.  One law would be a “link tax” requires pages to buy licenses to link there content, eg: music. The other is an “upload filter” which would require EVERYTHING uploaded in the EU to be check for copyright.  Which means ANYTHING that is copyright, eg: uploading your favorite scene from a TV show or movie, (using something copyright to) making memes, anything using something that is copyright will not be allowed  unless it’s the copyright holder.  These laws are meant to stop pirating but it expands it so much that it takes away the freedom of the internet.  It has to pass the final vote and there is a lot of push back so this may not pass but we’ll see.

Ozzy’s Thoughts:  WHAT THE F**K IS GOING ON!?  I thought the EU was suppose to be progressive and less stupid than the fucking Brits with there Brexit bulls**t.  These proposed laws are just as bad, if not worse, than destroying net neutrality here in the US.  I know Wiggin won’t feel anything for losing memes from the internet (he despises them) but when you can’t even go online without seeing anything that made the internet free and open because this law says you can’t show this 10 second funny clip from Thor: Ragnarok because the studio didn’t upload it.  That could f**king expand to being unable to show your clip from the zoo because there was a BMW brand car in the background and you can’t show it without there permission.

As said, a lot of people don’t like this and it may not make it past the final vote but here have been a lot of things happening in the world that shouldn’t have happened but it’s 2018…it’s seems that stuff that shouldn’t happen happens.

Screw progressive…FULL REVERSE ON BRAINS AND SANITY!  DEVOLVE FASTER!

(Edit: Please note, this article was written BEFORE the final vote happened a few days later.)
