Weekly Wrap Up (4/2/18) – (4/6/18)

With the speed at which news comes out in the gaming industry we sometimes miss important or news worthy things. Some of these things we want to talk about in a way that is both easy for you guys and allows us to get all the facts together as some of these stories develop quickly. Sometimes we also just cover topics that we find interesting and want to discuss.

Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord touts upgradable castles and still no release date

PC Gamer has an article that goes into detail about new information regarding Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord  and the ability for players to design and upgrade castles. This seems to include roads and pathways inside the castle along with the surrounding areas and adding in vegetation.  The upgrade system as explained by the devs:  “The system is quite simple: castles start at level 1 and can be upgraded twice to reach their maximum level. In the example castle below, with each upgrade the castle gets taller, more dominant towers; better positions to deploy defensive machines; deeper walls at critical points for larger troop formations; greater coverage over its gatehouse; and the opportunity to deploy a layered defense.” More can be read about the castles with the Dev Blog.  Unfortunately we still don’t have a release date or time frame for the release of this highly anticipated release.

Wiggin’s thoughts on the subject :  I’m quite excited to see the ability to customize and upgrade your castle as shown by the video clip above.  I like that they are taking the time to allow the castles to have both a defensive position and a offensive position. I also think they are putting in the time to get the game to a completed state before releasing the game. I just hope that the this increase of Dev Blogs and show casing the features and upcoming mechanics means we are growing closer to a release date or at least an announcement of a release date because at this point I’m concerned it will never get finished. It’s been in development for a few years now and usually things taking this long don’t always fulfill the expectations it has acquired since its announcement. I know myself and many others have high hopes for this game.

Over saturation of Battle Royal

I’ve been seeing a lot of things on PC Gamer lately (The Division Studio working on Battle Royal game, Jeff Kaplan would love a Battle Royal Mode in Overwatch, Ghost Recon Wildlands Battle Royal Impossible as of now, H1Z1 Auto-Royal,) about Battle Royal games and modes and related items to PUBG and Fortnite such as there new iOS/Android launches, etc. etc. including how fans of the original Fornite (PVE) feel about the Battle Royal mode.

Ozzy’s Thoughts:  Quick confession, I have not played either PUBG or Fortnite, or indeed ANY Battle Royal games or modes.  While I’m attracted to both Fortnite and PUBG, the pluses of minuses of them both keep from from truly wanting to play either right now (and yes I know Fortnite is Free.)  But with all these games and modes and articles showing up about Battle Royal (BR), I know that every studio looks at the two “Titans” of BR and wants in on the action but at some point there has to be a cut off right?  I mean I’m not “exactly” complaining about this, maybe another game will come out that can go toe-to-to with the current “Titans” that I’ll REALLY want to play.  But there really is too much of a good thing and if all they’re making is BR games, can there at least be something unique to all of them?  I’m not just talking about looks, I mean something that really makes it different from the others.  H1Z1’s “Auto-Royal” is unique in the case of you use vehicles only, with smoke, oil slicks, etc.  It seems more cartoony-fun than Fornite but that’s just me.

Overall, add modes to original games, fine.  Brand new BR games, okay…maybe remember it’s a bandwagon, it’s not gonna last forever?  Give it some time.

Adding BR to Overwatch, Oh god kill me now…NO.  Just flat, unavoidable, NO.
