Weekly Wrap Up (3/23/18) – (3/30/18)

With the speed at which news comes out in the gaming industry we sometimes miss important or news worthy things. Some of these things we want to talk about in a way that is both easy for you guys and allows us to get all the facts together as some of these stories develop quickly. Sometimes we also just cover topics that we find interesting and want to discuss.

PUBG is testing region lock

Playerunknown Battlegrounds are considering implementing region locking to the servers to keep players playing inside regions based on their geographical location. They will allow players that group up together between regions to play on either regions server if they are grouped together. They are currently testing this new region gating experience on the test server before implementing into the main game.

Wiggin’s thoughts on the subject :  I find it quite interesting that it has taken this long to implement this feature into a game that is so relient on net code and the shooting experience would not put the effort into make the shooting experience the best possible experience possible from the get go. The core experience of the game is hunting other players in a live online experience where you find weapons and try out survive other players. I’ve been playing the game on and off since the early access version of the game and my biggest gripe with my experience is that when I watch the kill cam I’m never quite sure how the other player was able to see me from his point of view. I’ve also been killed by players not actually aiming at me as well. It’s hard to tell if this from cheaters or just poor shooter experiencee due to the scope of the game. I’m quite excited to see that they are finally implementing region locking for a first person shooter that already suffers from performance issues and cheaters. I just wish it was done a long time ago because it is sorley lacking. I’d be interested to see if this removes some of the issues I have with how fair this game appears to be from my experience.

Overwatch teases “new” Uprising Event

If you haven’t played Overwatch recently, the launcher has added a “hint” to the upcoming yearly Uprising Event and shortly after being noticed by the internet, they added a new trailer showing off last years event coming back.  The difference between the hint on the launcher and the ending of the trailer show that something else will be arriving with the event.  What it is we don’t know but we’ll find out.

Ozzy’s Thoughts: While Overwatch with me has its ups and downs with me personally ranging from just horribly toxic people, broken characters and the like, the events they do yearly are interesting and out of all of them last year, the Uprising Event had to be my favorite.  Since this game revolves around its (nearly absent) overall lore but somehow the community knows more about the lore than the game tells me, having an actual story that tells me of something that happened, even if it’s just a small snippet is nice.  The downside is…yep, same thing as last year.  And I’m not holding my breath about this new…whatever the hell they’re adding.  If it’s new skins…whoopity-freakin’-do, I got over the skins a long time ago (unless it’s jaw dropping awesome then I take that back.)  But if it’s actually some other story lore, even if it’s related to the original Uprising but from another perspective (another team on the other side of the city?  Taking control of the robots?) then that’ll be cool.  Story wise, there is a lot of potential in this game but it never really expands on it except snippets of characters which is neither good nor bad, just a bit forgettable.
