Weekly Wrap Up (2/19/18) – (2/23/18)

With the speed at which news comes out in the gaming industry we sometimes miss important or news worthy things. Some of these things we want to talk about in a way that is both easy for you guys and allows us to get all the facts together as some of these stories develop quickly. Sometimes we also just cover topics that we find interesting and want to discuss.

EA may be trying to kill the Loot Box  discussion before it gets to far

According to a video posted by YongYea  and subsequent transcription of said video.  He brings interesting point in regards to larger companies even  acknowledging that loot boxes are even an issue that needs to be looked at. He states that ESRB’s parent organization the ESA also issued a response to loot boxes but did not lay forth any plans to combat them, only saying that they are aware of them.

Wiggin’s thoughts on the subject : Now I’m not here to disagree with this because it’s an interesting thing to note.  So far all we have seen is that watchdog companies have said they are aware of the issue that loot boxes pose but nothing has been done and those companies that are making the most off these schemes would pay quite a lot to continue ridding their gravy train these loot boxes provide. I’d like to think that “maybe” these groups that claim they have the consumers best interest in mind do something to limit the rampaged abuse of loot boxes publishers seem to be on these days. We as consumers need to be voting with our wallet and not defending these loot boxes by saying “they are only cosmetic” as this isn’t true and never has been true. Creating any form system where you have a group of have and have nots will always lead to people spending money in order to join the group of haves. It’s the psychological manipulation that I find so fascinating with loot box systems. I’ll keep my eyes peeled for more info and keep you all updated in regards to what’s being done about these loot boxes.

Updates to both Battlefield 1 and Battlefront 2

On Tuesday, Battlefield 1 and Battlefront 2 got updates.  Battlefield the new and last DLC “Apocalypse” and Battlefront a host of fixes and balances.  However a major downside has affected both of them.  The new update, especially for Battlefield, has caused stuttering on every kill.  Battlefront however seems to be causing people (more) lag as they warp and jump across the screen in split seconds.

Ozzy’s Thoughts:  *Heavy sigh*  Both games are already “fragile” right now, Battlefield 1 is hemorrhaging players and Battlefront 2 is just awful.  And when this update for Battlefront appeared I honestly thought they’d fix my lagging problem.  Which they actually did…on my end.  I no longer teleport back 15 feet every 10 seconds but now I see so many players running in place for a few seconds, teleporting forward and back 10 feet and of course them running away from me, me shooting them, then just dying with no animation or explanation because the game didn’t bother explaining (animating) that that person saw me and shot at me and killed me, just a delayed “You were defeated by…person still running away.”  Not that any of the mechanics have been fixed, aircraft still kill everything because they auto-spot people who are shot at/kill by the enemy and then just hold Mouse 1.Battlefield 1 is still playable…kinda, if you can handle the constant freezing every time you kill.  Getting a multi-kill freezes the game for a good second is how bad it is.  Not to mention all the bugs introduced to game.  Spawning in aircraft with the camera disconnected from your body stuck in mid-air, half of your bullets that don’t register at times, repair/resupplies/heals not connecting to people.

We’re just going to gloss over the fact that while this DLC was on the test server, so many things that so many people did not like, told the devs they didn’t like it and either said “don’t put it in” or “how about change it to this” with Dice more/less saying “sounds good” and Dice completely ignoring ALL of it and putting it in the game anyway.

I don’t know what EA/Dice are doing but at this rate my thoughts for the next Battlefield game, or indeed ANY game from this company is making are all negative (not that they weren’t before this) and I’m honestly not looking forward to anything that’s going to come out.  I’m only saying this because how can they let an updates like this get through?  Why didn’t they stop it/delay it if this was going to cause this problem for, not just me but everyone?

I'm a fun-loving, intelligent guy who likes to solve people's problems. I like to play strategy games and FPS games in my spare time. I've been called 'Too Serious' plenty of times, but its that seriousness that gives me the ability to think things through thoroughly and find the best solution.
