Games We Enjoyed in 2019

The year is coming to a close and we wanted to share the games we enjoyed playing most in 2019. There have been some games that are in early access and some on consoles that we finally got the chance to enjoy. We hope you enjoyed some games in 2019 and wish everyone a happy new year.

MLB The Show 19 (PS4)

After playing and reviewing yet another yearly release of NFL Madden that was both disappointing and extremely frustrating to play something had to change. I finally took the plunge and purchased a PS4 and a copy of the most recent copy of MLB The Show. I have wanted to play this game since around 2012 when 2K12 was the last baseball game on PC. So I finally felt it was time try this game as a long time baseball fan. I have to say I was not disappointed in my experience with the game. It really was a fun experience being able to play a realistic baseball game and building my Diamond Dynasty team has been fun and not overly grindy. I look forward to MLB The Show 20 and hope that maybe in the future the game comes to PC but I’m not holding my breath. Not sure I’m super excited for yearly releases of a game I enjoy though; hopefully it makes the yearly purchases worth it.

 Hell Let Loose (Early Access)

This game released into Early Access this year and it is the World War II shooter I’ve been waiting for. It feels like a bigger better version of older Battlefield games but with more attention to historical accuracy and realism. The maps are real life locations recreated that were actually fought over and the weapons all perform more or less how you expect them to in real life. This game requires quite a bit of teamwork and cooperation compared to something like Battlefield but the payoff of having teammates listen to you and assist you is a feeling you only get in specific games. The developers also seem to stand by their product and have been on schedule with updates thus far. I’m really excited to see this game come out of early access and see their vision come to completion.

Red Dead Redemption II

I first played Red Dead Revolver on Xbox back in the day and once Red Dead Redemption came out nine years ago I’ve wanted to play this series on PC. That day has finally come and I can play it all in first person view to boot. While I’m working on a review of this game to say this game isn’t amazing is an understatement. I’ve been working my way though the story and other then a few hiccups and crashes I’ve had an amazing time with the game. I hope that the online portion keeps me interested but just being able to wonder around the beautiful word is just breath taking. I highly recommend this game if you can run it and enjoy the Wild West.

 IL-2: Battle of Bodenplatte

World War II flight simulators have never looked so good. IL-2: Battle of Bodenplatte released this year is the 4th standalone plane related “game” they have released. Each of the Battle of X packages are standalone “games” that have some planes, a map and single player campaign included. Battle of Bodenplatte contains later war US planes including the P-51 Mustang and P-38 Lightning that are a blast to fly. I pre-ordered this last year after deciding to invest in IL-2 over DCS and it’s been a blast to play. I even spent some time making some training missions with the mission editor and even that was fun. While there is a steep learning curve the payoff for this is flight simulator is amazing and second to none. I am excited about the next expansion Battle of Normandy coming out next year.

I'm a fun-loving, intelligent guy who likes to solve people's problems. I like to play strategy games and FPS games in my spare time. I've been called 'Too Serious' plenty of times, but its that seriousness that gives me the ability to think things through thoroughly and find the best solution.
