Overwatch makes League disciplines public
Earlier this week it was revealed that the Overwatch League will be making public player discipline issues visible to all with a “Player Discipline Tracker”. This system is supposed to create accountability for the Overwatch League teams.
Wiggin’s Thoughts: This is quite an interesting development in the sense related to keep players accountable for their actions in a”professional” setting in esports. Overall I like to think that players are being held to a specific set of standards. However, after reading these infractions they are cheating for other people. Four out of the seven players currently listed on this discipline tracker are being suspended for “account boosting”. Last time I checked account boosting was playing with someone else account to boost them to a higher rank then they personally could achieve on their own. To me this sounds like cheating for other people, potentially for money. The issue I have with this is these are listed as “infractions” and not out right league bans. What does it take to be banned from Overwatch League ? I’m not sure but I find it extremely hard to take these esports seriously when the players involved get caught cheating and are only getting a slap on the wrist.
