With the speed at which news comes out in the gaming industry we sometimes miss important or news worthy things. Some of these things we want to talk about in a way that is both easy for you guys and allows us to get all the facts together as some of these stories develop quickly. Sometimes we also just cover topics that we find interesting and want to discuss.
EA announces on reddit remaster of Command Conquer series
On the C&C subreddit, producer Jim Vessella of EA (C&C 3 and RA3) posted an announcement about what fans would like in the future possibility of a C&C remaster for the 25th anniversary. While the actual date of the very first release of Command and Conquer (1995) is still a couple years away, they seem to be planning for the well in advance.
Down that same thread, Jim Vessella answered a question saying “We will not be adding any microtransactions to a C&C Remaster.”
Ozzy’s thoughts: Red Alert 2/Yuris Revenge was the very first C&C I ever played and I loved it. It was so wacky with invisible tanks, mind controlling infantry, a giant blimp with endless bombs, but it was so fun to play. With it’s tongue-in-cheek type of ‘realism’ it was just too fun to put down. I honestly don’t remember if that was my very first RTS I ever played but either way, it is up there on the list of my all time favorites. But my all time favorite game is Generals/Zero Hour. All the “classic” fanbase hated it but it was so NOT like classic C&C that I couldn’t help but love it and I was really looking forward to a Generals 2, before they turned it into a pay-to-win…thing that died almost immediately after that change.
The fact that EA remembers this game and wants to make the fans happy AND that micro-transactions won’t be apart of it (because we always have to ask this company about it) gives me a bit of hope on the possibility of a Generals 2. No one liked C&C 4 (which I never played and refuse to) which was the last, proper PC game of the series so I’ll take a remake happily. Just have to wait a couple years is all. I got time.
Paradox games will be easier to mod thanks to an engine update
As PC Gamer reported a new engine update starting with Imperator: Rome Paradox games will be easier to mod moving forward. They are finally working on creating tools that the community and developers can use to create game assets.
Wiggin’s thoughts on the subject: As someone who is a huge fan of mods and enjoy the occasionally modding myself this is something I’m extremely happy to see. I’m always extremely interested in seeing how modding communities can extend the life of a game or add onto the hard work developers have already put into the game. I look forward to seeing what tools become available and what things the community creates. I always try my best to support developers because without mods many of us would not get into programming and game development.
