Weekly Wrap Up (1/15/18) – (1/19/18)

With the speed at which news comes out in the gaming industry we sometimes miss important or news worthy things. Some of these things we want to talk about in a way that is both easy for you guys and allows us to get all the facts together as some of these stories develop quickly. Sometimes we also just cover topics that we find interesting and want to discuss.

Destiny 2 Faction Rally throttling

We learned from PCGamer  this week that Bungie has been throttling there Engram drop rate in Destiny 2.  It was put in from a previous Rally where players were getting more Engram drops than they should of.  The current Rally is limiting everyone to getting an Engram drop every 10 minutes along with people complaining that none of the new weapons were dropping after the first one.  It turns out that the weapons drop is intentional and you will get the five new weapons over the course of the season instead of all at once as was previously explained.

Ozzy’s thoughts:  Other than the Destiny 2 open beta, I’ve had no interest in anything Destiny.  But as of launch, all I’ve heard were complaints, missteps and generally just anger from the fans who have been trying to play the game and all Bungie has been doing is kept screwing up.  I don’t know what is going on over, especially when they came out and apologized about how they handled launch and what else, only for them to continue with this, almost monthly, screw up schedule.  When a game is ALL about loot and getting better guns, equipment, etc. and you’re intentionally throttling it because………….please fill in the blank for me here because I can’t think of anything.  I see this as if the Borderlands series, a game ALL ABOUT loot, said “Okay you can play the whole game from start to finish but you will only get a loot drop every 20 hours.  Please enjoy the rest of the game.” I paid 60 something dollars for stuff to be locked out from me?  NO ONE would stand for that, NO ONE would like that, NO ONE would buy that.

I know Destiny is this quasi-MMO/Not-MMO game but let’s be honest here: It’s a multiplayer shooter game before anything else.  Locking stuff out because you want them to grind for it because….you don’t want them to enjoy your game?  I don’t know.  If this game was Free-to-Play maybe people would be okay with it?  I don’t know honestly but Bungie needs to get their act together because this game/studio is becoming a joke.

Fable franchise to make a return

According to a reveal from Eurogamer  it would appear that Microsoft has green lit the return of the Fable franchise. It’s been almost two years since Microsoft shut down the original developers of the Fable games Lionhead Studios. The new team in charge of the Fable franchise is the UK developer Playground who has previously been the time behind Forza Horizon.

Wiggin’s thoughts on the subject :  So it’s a bit of bittersweet bit of news to me because it’s nice to hear that the franchise isn’t dead it comes with the knowledge that the original developers aren’t at the helm for this new game. So that makes me wonder if this is really the revival is what hardcore fans are really interested in seeing. I can only hope that the team that does Forza Horizon is able to deliver the type of experience that hardcore fans of Fable will expect from another entry into the franchise. This can go one of two ways in regards to outcome with a new developer in charge and I hope that we get a Fable game that we want to play that takes lessons from previous Fable games and improves on them and this isn’t a re-imagining or starting from the ground floor in terms of design and scope.  We will be keeping our eyes on the development of this game and see how Playground takes the franchise.
