Games “we” enjoyed in 2021

Another year is behind us, and while there have been some ups and downs both inside the gaming sphere and outside, there have still been a few games that I’ve enjoyed this year. I realize there haven’t been any official reviews for these games or much of anything this past year. I hope that will change in 2022.

With that out of the way, let’s talk about some games that I have enjoyed in 2022. In years past, I have not put these in any particular order, but this year I want to highlight these games in the order, I would recommend them.

Halo Infinite

This game was a delightful surprise to end out the year. For the first time in 20 years, I was able to play a Halo first-person shooter on the same day as the console. While this may be insignificant to most, this made me feel like a PC player that we were actually taken into account. So not only was I able to enjoy the campaign the game was a ton of fun. I was instantly transported back to my childhood and have been enjoying the heck out of the game, even if I’m still essentially relearning the entire game due to the changes made to the sandbox and franchise since 2001. While I understand the item shop and no co-op can be frustrating, and I would not disagree if you want to wait until those things are addressed, if you want a free multiplayer experience to keep you busy, you won’t be disappointed with this game.

Halo Wars 2

To continue my halo themed holidays, I have returned to Halo Wars 2 after previously beating the main campaign earlier this year. This time though, I have been enjoying the multiplayer aspect, specifically Blitz mode. As someone who enjoys a good RTS, I was looking for something I could just pick up and play a few rounds and have fun. This fit the bill, and while this might not be the deepest RTS game out there, it has provided me a ton of fun with each round not taking super long, plus kept that Halo theme going.

Ghost Recon Breakpoint

So I ended up skipping out on Ghost Recon Wildlands because I just did not like it when I played the beta. For whatever reason, maybe the $20 price tag or running around with my brother in Breakpoint, I had a lot of fun. Running around an island, killing random groups of people and robots while being able to play the campaign in any order, was very liberating. Not to mention running away from Terminators was an interesting experience. In short, this game was a fun fling prior to all the NFT stuff that came out recently. Moving forward, I don’t know how much I want to deal with Ubisoft between the NFT and other corporate hot water they are in.

Animal Royale

The last game on my list for the last year is Animal Royale. Now I’m not normally into Battle Royal, but this cute isometric game is about animals finding guns and shooting each other, attempting to be the only cute fox or squirrel alive. I ended up sinking quite a few hours into this game as it was fun with friends and wasn’t overly complicated, and had very low system requirements allowing some friends that don’t have beefy devices to join in. As I write this, it looks l like they added support for cross-play parties across different platforms. Another fun game that I actually enjoyed this year, not to mention it’s also free!

For me, 2021 was an interesting year, and I tried my best to fit in some gaming in between everything else going on. I hope that you also got to enjoy some fun games this past year and wish everyone a good 2022!
