Five Nights at Freddy’s

Five Nights at Freddy’s is a single player point & click survival horror indie title that puts the player in the role of a person who just got a new summer job at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza (think Chuck-E-Cheese).

The object of the game is to survive 5 nights of the new job by watching different security cameras to ensure the animatronic characters do not move from the show stage.
How is a game where you watch animatronic mascots scary? The only defenses from the murderous characters are 2 metal doors that drain power. Every time you flip through the cameras, turn on the lights, or shut the door, the battery drains more power. Even sitting idle slowly drains the battery life. Run out of power and everything goes completely dark and quiet. After a couple of seconds, Freddy’s face lights up the left door. A few seconds after that, anticipate a jump scare (I jumped and screamed).

One night, I made the mistake of not diligently observing the doors. I attempted to turn the light on to discover the light and door switch were unresponsive. About a minute later, Freddy pops out of seemly nowhere. This is another example of how Five Nights at Freddy’s can make a player paranoid and mess with them to scare the player.

Five Nights at Freddy’s is terrifying. I jumped and screamed while playing this game. I purchased this game for $2.49 during the Steam Halloween sale. As of the time of writing, I still do not have a solid decision in regards to if this game is worth the purchase price (for me). It is horrifying however once the patterns and routines of the animatronic characters are figured out, this game becomes more tedious and a tad boring. If you are looking for actual jump scares, this game is worth checking out.
