Weekly Wrap Up (3/18/19-3/24/19)

With the speed at which news comes out in the gaming industry we sometimes miss important or news worthy things. Some of these things we want to talk about in a way that is both easy for you guys and allows us to get all the facts together as some of these stories develop quickly. Sometimes we also just cover topics that we find interesting and want to discuss.

Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 announced

Wednesday the 21st brought us a trailer of the upcoming Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2, sequel to the original that came out in 2004 (16 years ago if you don’t want to count) of the cult classic. While we didn’t get much from the trailer in terms of story, skills, game play, etc. we do know it’s taking place in Seattle, Washington and that sites such as PCGamer got to watch a 30 minute demo of the game with some additional information. Like the original, you play a freshly turned vampire but this time it was a “Mass Embrace” (a group of people turned to vampires instead of just one) which is illegal. And while you were set to death you escape and try to live in the new, underground world you’ve discovered.

Officially announced, the game comes out in Q1 2020.

Ozzy’s Thoughts: I’ve always been attracted to the original game because not only do you get to be a vampire (who doesn’t have an attraction to that?) it’s ‘classic’ RPG style game. I miss those, but I never got around to playing Bloodlines 1, there was always something else I wanted to get on sale or in a bundle. When they announced Bloodlines 2, I told myself “I’m getting this game when it goes on sale, no matter the price.” Cut to later that same night, GoG.com sends me an email saying it’s on sale for $4.99, boom I bought it. While I haven’t finished it, I really do love this game. The choices you make in the story, the skills you can better with your character, it’s great.
It does show its age but not horribly to the point you cringe to play. With the Unofficial Patch it runs great, I’ve yet to encounter any major problem and amazingly the original Source engine (early Half Life 2) really shines here. I’m so use to Source engine being strictly multiplayer combat (Team Fortress 2/Titanfall/Apex Legends) or pretty scenery’s (Dear Esther) that I forget that it can be anything else.

I’m properly looking forward to Bloodlines 2. I hope they keep the original, ‘old fashioned’ RPG style gameplay. I want to pick and choose every skill point, every story option based on my skills, I want a classic RPG modernized for today. I don’t want it to be down to the “good choice, the bad choice, and a neutral choice.” If I can convince the bad guy to not kill me, then kill him later anyway, I want those options. But I’m hopefully that Paradox Interactive will be good for the game.
