Weekly Wrap Up (3/11/19-3/15/19)

With the speed at which news comes out in the gaming industry we sometimes miss important or news worthy things. Some of these things we want to talk about in a way that is both easy for you guys and allows us to get all the facts together as some of these stories develop quickly. Sometimes we also just cover topics that we find interesting and want to discuss.

Microsoft Announced Halo: The Master Chief Collection for Steam

So it finally happened pigs flew and Microsoft announced Halo: The Master Chief Collection for PC. The good news doesn’t stop there though they also confirmed it is coming to Steam where many thought if it did ever come to PC it would be a Microsoft Store exclusive. Thankfully that isn’t the case and while we don’t yet have a release date it’s still something to look forward to. The only other hang up is price. This version of MCC will also include Halo: Reach so we will really get to enjoy entire Halo story line on PC.

Wiggin’s thoughts on the subject:  I honestly don’t have much to say other then I’m excited and a bit hesitant as the Xbox version of the game still wasn’t in the best spot in terms of multiplayer when it released. I hope these issues are worked out for the PC release but if not at least I can enjoy the remastered story of the halo games. Of course the cherry on top of that would be functioning multiplayer and co-op on release. As someone who grew up playing Halo on PC I can officially say I’m excited to finally get to play the entire story on my platform of choice.

Ozzy’s Thoughts:  As Wiggin said above, I’m excited but I’m hesitant for other reasons.  I grew up with Halo, played Halo 2 on a friends Xbox and (attempted) to play it on Windows Vista which never worked pasted the first level.  Since then, all the games have been on console and I’ve missed the Chief and Cortana a lot.  Everyone, rightly so, has been begging and pleading for it to be on PC but obviously, other than an RTS Halo (really?)  it has never arrived.  Now, will it be “…worth the wait?” to paraphrase Gabe Newell.

To say I’m excited and happy and FINALLY getting not one, not two, not three, but almost ALL the Halo games in one package for one price is an understatement.  But it’s balanced by “what could Microsoft do to fuck it up?”  I know no one likes to hear this but it has to be said.  I give you ONE MAJOR thing to worry about:

Metro: Exodus.

I’m sure everyone remembers 4A Games pulling it from Steam after a LONG time on the store and saying “Sorry, only on the Epic Store now.”  Other than that store being bare, basic, almost to the point of being pointless to have running, I really wouldn’t care if they did put it on the Epic Store only.  What I’M thinking is what’s to stop Microsoft from saying “Windows Store/Windows 10/DirectX12 only” and yank it from Steam.  I do not like Windows 10, I do not run Windows 10 (on my gaming computer), but if I had to put it back on for just one game, would this be worth it?  I’ve had nothing but problem with W10 but that’s a me thing.  I believe we ALL DESPISE the Windows Store which has NEVER WORKED as a proper platform and that it makes the Epic Store look like a Noble Prize winning piece of technology.

I guess in the end, I’ll stay happy that we finally get Halo on PC, but not holding my breath that something stupid/bad won’t happen before launch.
