Weekly Wrap Up (12/3/18 – 12/9/18)

With the speed at which news comes out in the gaming industry we sometimes miss important or news worthy things. Some of these things we want to talk about in a way that is both easy for you guys and allows us to get all the facts together as some of these stories develop quickly. Sometimes we also just cover topics that we find interesting and want to discuss.

Satisfactory and others removed from Steam, coming to Epic Store

A number of upcoming games have been removed from Steam entirely or have been pushed back to a later time, while they launch first on the Epic Store according to PCGamer.  Satisfactory has been removed entirely and according to a youtube video by developer Jace Varley, the Epic store will be the only place you can get it.  Two other games, Rebel Galaxy Outlaw and Genesis Alpha One, will be timed exclusives, coming to the Steam store a year later.

Epic has explained while they are completely grateful for Valve and Steam paving the way for the digital storefronts and distributions that are now a standard for everyone, Epic feels that there price range of a 88% of the profits to the developer and 12% to Epic (compared to Steams 70/30) is needed to help more developers, especially indie developers, survive in today’s digital storefronts and hope that more stores will follow suit.

Ozzy’s Thoughts:  When I first heard of Satisfactory I was entirely looking forward to it (still am) and it’s been at the top of my wish list ever since.  Genesis Alpha One is also up there and although this whole situation is so extremely minor of an inconvenience (who doesn’t have 3 or more launchers/stores on there computer nowadays?) that it doesn’t bug me.  I do wish they had not kept there Steam pages up all this time just to take them down, but again, it’s really of no concern.

At face value, Epic giving more profits to the developers is a good thing for smaller and indie games out there and I’d like to hope that Steam will change there profit split in time (but it’s Valve, don’t expect it anytime soon) but the future will show us what happens next overall.  I still eagerly await Satisfactory and Genesis Alpha One just on another launcher.

Just please, no ‘Fortnite’ mode.
