Weekly Wrap Up (10/15/18 – 10/21/18)

With the speed at which news comes out in the gaming industry we sometimes miss important or news worthy things. Some of these things we want to talk about in a way that is both easy for you guys and allows us to get all the facts together as some of these stories develop quickly. Sometimes we also just cover topics that we find interesting and want to discuss.

Six Foot lays off 1/3 of it’s staff

According to GameInformer, developer of behind the newly released (for PC) game Dreadnought, has let go of one third of there staff. Six Foot seems to have tried to work with there employees to help them in an uncertain time. Offering them a choice to leave the company outright with no hard feelings or go on an unpaid leave of absence with the hope that the game would infuse enough cash into the studio to bring them back. With Dreadnought being delayed to launch on the PC, money running out, and banking on the hope that Dreadnought will pull in enough money at launch did not pan out. As of now, a skeleton crew is working on Dreadnought and with the current Steam reviews mixed, it seems that unless something drastic happens, the studio won’t be able to bring it’s staff back.

Ozzy’s Thoughts: I’ve been looking forward to this game since it was announced. Fractured Space was my original love of “big space ship fights” but the rapid and drastic changes they did after going Free-to-Play really disheartened me (and apparently a lot of the player base, 182 is the peak in the last 24 hours as of this posting) and I was hoping that Dreadnought would replace it. And as of playing it, it mostly has. But this news has disheartened me, and personally I think will taint the game from now on, if it goes any further that is.
I hope the people that were let go find new footing somewhere else or even better, the company is able to bring them back somehow. As this is another big lay off story, it seems that Six Foot at least tried to be better than Telltales out-of-nowhere layoffs and tried to help out. Whether that actually helped will be up to the employees let go and what they tell us.
