Weekly Wrap Up (10/1/18 – 10/5/18)

With the speed at which news comes out in the gaming industry we sometimes miss important or news worthy things. Some of these things we want to talk about in a way that is both easy for you guys and allows us to get all the facts together as some of these stories develop quickly. Sometimes we also just cover topics that we find interesting and want to discuss.

The Walking Dead: The Final Season

PCGamer reports that the final season of The Walking Dead will be finished by the Robert Kirkmans (creator of the Walking Dead comic series) company Skybound Games.  There are no details of release dates or anything as of yet other than a tweet from the company saying: “We’re SO happy to announce that we’ve reached a deal with @telltalegames that will allow Skybound to continue #TheWalkingDead: The Final Season! Let’s wrap up Clem’s story right! More details to come soon.” As quoted by IGN, a statement from Skybound Games: “Skybound will work with members of the original Telltale team to finish the story in a way the fans deserve.”

Ozzy’s Thoughts: While I’ve grown tired of the TV series (Rick and Maggie leaving is too much for me) and while I’ve only played the first season of the game, I’ve been really interested in playing it again.  Telltale has a great capacity for…telling tales. (I apologize for that.)  I’ve wanted to play the other seasons that have come up but when they said this would be the final season I figured why not just do what we all do with streaming: binge (play) all the games.  I didn’t expect the company actually closing and not finishing the finale which would’ve made me never want to play any of them.  I can’t stand unfinished stories (everyone just ignore Firefly.)

Luckily Skybound games, which is not at all surprising is owned by Kirkman, saved the day to finish the game.  Hopefully it will “feel” like the original game and not go from (classic television reference here kids, yes I’m older than you) old TV series when shows were converting from black and white filming to color and people felt the show was “too different from the original” Ask your parents or grandparents about “The Andy Griffith Show” to learn more.

It is also nice to know they’re working with some of the original team to finish it.  Whether or not they’ll actually become full on employees we won’t know for now but keeping the consistency of the game is good to hear.
