Prince of Persia

Prince of Persia holds a special place in the mind and hearts of many gamers, because it was one of the hardest, most demanding yet very fund games ever created. What I like the most about this game is definitely its story, which places us in the role of a Persian prince which comes from battle only to find out that Jaffar, a wizard, took the reign of his homeland, with only the Sultan daughter being the one to stand against him. Jaffar has locked her in the tower, and we have to free her as well as defeat the evil wizard in 60 minutes.

I find the premise of this game to be extraordinary, and the title does a great job in bringing in a whole range of interesting challenges with its gameplay as well. Since you are limited by time, you will always find yourself rushing through the palace, but to be honest there’s enough time to go and find a few bonus locations as well.
Moreover, I enjoy the fact that the game has a lot of traps and challenges placed in your way, because this makes it feel realistic and it does give that sense of urgency that you might want from a platform game.

Speaking of that, platforming is solid and with lots of traps, dungeons and enemies to scour, we will always have to put our skills to the test!

For some people, having to complete all 12 levels in a single session was very challenging, and the lack of a savegame definitely makes the game a lot more difficult.
There’s also a lot of combat in the game, especially against Jaffar’s army, but at one point you will also have to fight an apparition of your own self which was conjured out of a magic mirror. I have to say that I am amazed even today when it comes to the originality and sheer appeal of the gameplay and story, because you can rarely see such innovation in gaming, especially nowadays.

Health is shown through a few small triangles and it’s limited to begin with. Of course, there are health potions scattered throughout the game world, but many times getting there can be challenging, so it’s up to the player to see if it’s worth it or not.

Graphically, Prince of Persia is very impressive, because the character design is lively and alive, with the animations being very good as well. The backgrounds are a little repetitive, but in the end that’s not a major problem and certainly doesn’t affect the gameplay.

As a whole, I was impressed with Prince of Persia and I still play it from time to time in order to test my abilities and defeat my own scores. From the great inspiration sources to the unique gameplay and the amazing experience you get from playing it, this game is indeed one of the best titles action-adventure games ever created, so I do recommend you to give it a try, it’s well worth your time!
